Why is the Desert so Magical Close to Sunset?
The desert can be a merciless place. Heat and dryness and no shade and the mountains in the distance look as dry as your tongue.
In the afternoon, when the sun sinks, the face changes. The hard warrior with the face of rock and sand and the bright blue eyes softens.
Thoughts of beauty and eternity replace the fight for survival. The air is dry and clean and you can see into the distance and you feel you can see up to Mars or Saturn.
Then, shortly before sunset, when the sun rays come in almost parallel, everything is removed from its weight and floating, as if it were heaven.
The colors beam, and the heart is light and full of joy and this moment seems to carry an eternity.
It keeps me going back again and again to witness this transformation of the desert into a part of a supreme mind, that also transforms everyone who has been submitted to it.
Even in densely populated areas in the desert like Palm Springs you can still feel a bit of this opening up of reality - just like the girl in this picture, wearing a design of my client, the haute couturier Sergio Duque.
